SMC Celebrates 101st Foundation Day
“New Spirit and New Fervor towards another Century of Passionate Shepherding” was the theme during the 101st Foundation Day celebration of Saint Michael College, Cantilan. The festivities started on the evening of September 22 at 6:00 o’clock with the Dinner for a Cause sponsored by the SMC Alumni Association and the Disco Concert for a Cause at 8:00 o’clock sponsored by the High School Silver Jubilarians, Batch 1991. The merriment took place at the vast sports court of SMC.
The Alumni Day was scheduled on September 24. A Thanksgiving Mass at 7:30 o’clock in the morning at the Parish Church opened the alumni activities. Afterwards, motorcade around the town participated by the different batches of both the high school and college took place. The alumni assembly at the SMC sports court for the annual general meeting and the share-a-lunch by batch, followed. Mini olympics was done after lunch. In the evening, a Program and Party at the sports court took place. The alumni graced the occasion with zest and enjoyed the night with their classmates, schoolmates and friends. The Alumni Night was full of laughter and fun. It was a beautiful day of rejoicing and reminiscing the “good old days” in SMC.
The Talent Night on September 27 at 7:00 o’clock in the evening was exciting. Candidates from the Junior high clashed bringing out their skill in dancing, singing and other abilities. The Senior high and college department candidates, too, delivered their talents excellently. The candidates were amazing in their different presentations. Best in Talent for the Junior high school category were Mr. Nick Matthew Q. Iriberri and Miss Claredel Orozco and Best in Talent for the Senior high school and College category were Mr. Hadrein G. Damalerio and Miss Judy Annie A. Arpilleda.
Wednesday, September 28 was the opening of Palistohay 2016. A Thanksgiving Mass took place at 8:00 o’clock in the morning at the Parish Church, then the Intramurals followed. The Opening of Booths also took place on the same day. The day was devoted to sports activities but in the evening at 7:00 o’clock was the Coronation of Mr. and Miss Michaeliteen 2016 Mr. Nick Matthew Q. Iriberri and Miss Michell Jean A. Reyes and Mr. and Miss SMC 2016 Mr. Hadrein G. Damalerio and Miss Hannah Eula C. Sahilan. The affair was exciting because all the candidates gave their best in all the events during the competition. It was, indeed, an overwhelming showcase of Michaelinian beauty, talent and intelligence.
September 29 was the SMC Family Day being the Feast of Saint Michael the Archangel – Patron of the school. A Eucharistic Celebration at the Parish Church opened the day’s festivities. All the Michaelinians were encouraged to attend the thanksgiving celebration and to take part in the ceremonies. Then, the Blessing of the newly built classrooms followed. The Costume Parade around the town came next. The students, faculty, staff, parents and alumni were all excited to join the parade to show the oneness and camaraderie among the SMC family. At noon, a Share-a-Lunch took place at the SMC sports court. In the afternoon, the ground presentations were the highlight of the program, as well as the Launching of the One Year Countdown of the College Department Golden Anniversary (1967-2017). The CAdT class marched during the Parade and Review with the high school Drum and Glockenspiel Corp. Dances were presented by the graders, junior and senior high school students and college students in the different programs: Liberal Arts and Computer Science, Teacher Education and Business Administration. The crowd cheered at the K-Pop dancers of the grade school department. The junior high school performers were also well applauded when the Hawaiian, Pop and Retro dances were presented. Ballroom by the senior high school students was appreciated and the modern dances by the college students amused the crowd.
The games continued on September 30, 2016 and the players were all determined to get high scores in the events they played.
October 1 was intended for the parents. The celebration of the Parents’ day was a whole day affair from 8:30 o’clock in the morning to 4:00 o’clock in the afternoon. The morning activities included a short program where selected parents, faculty and staff from the three departments rendered dances. Also, the Induction of new set of officers of the three departments was done. The Share-a-Lunch was the last part of the morning activities. The afternoon was full of fun and enjoyment. Videoke challenge and parlor games participated by the parents of the college, high school and grade school departments took place. Everyone enjoyed the day and went home bringing the memories of the celebration.
