Michaelinians Outshine During Paulink 2016
Paulinian journous all over the Philippines converged at Saint Paul College Pasig (SPCP), Pasig City for the 11th SPC Campus Journalism Fellowship – Paulink: The Paulinian Ink on April 5 – 8, 2016. The event focused on the theme: “Journalized: The Gen Z Paulinian Journo in the Screenage.”
Thirty one (31) Michaelinian writers – 10 from the grade school and 21 from high school represented Saint Michael College (SMC) to the fellowship together with their coaches, Mr. Nico Michael D. Huelma, Ms. Louvanne Jessa D. Orzales and Ms. Merlyn E. Lao-ay.
The morning of April 5 was the registration and checking in of all delegates from all Paulinian schools in the Philippines. In the afternoon, the opening ceremonies were done to formally start the four-day fellowship. The keynote messages were given by Ms. Antoinette Jadaone, “Multi-awarded Blockbuster Hugot Director and Writer of the Philippines” and Mr. Dan Villegas, an award winning Filipino Cinematographer and Director. “Pursuing a Passion-Fueled Paulinian Dream” and “Telling the Stories that Matter” were delivered respectively by the speakers. An open forum followed and the dinner came after. In the evening, a Paulinian Quiz Whiz was held which Jasmine Rose B. Beldad and Kathleen E. Yparraguirre, both Grade 10 students, participated. Then, the first fellowship night followed.
Simultaneous concurrent sessions of six events were done the whole day of April 6. At three o’clock in the afternoon, a Quiz Bee participated by teams of each school took place. Later, Mr. Mark Joseph Ubalde, Online News Manager of TV5 presented Online Campus Paper Management. After dinner, an orientation was given for the Outbound Educational Tour. Games and the second fellowship night took place where the grade school Michaelinians participated.
April 7 served as the Outbound Educational Tour headed by the Lakbay Kalikasan Team. Each school was assigned with a corresponding bus number. The grade school and high school participants were together to see the different places like the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Agency, where students were informed how meteorologists detect the day-to-day weather conditions. The team also went to the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) where they experienced the job of a radio reporter. They also went to Quezon City Memorial Circle and toured the Museum of the late President Manuel L. Quezon, then proceeded to GMA Broadcasting Studio. When they got back to SPCP, a talk on “How to be F.I.T. (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) as Campus Journalism Tools,” was given by Mr. Reuben Velarde, Jr. Dinner was served at around six o’clock in the evening and the third night of the Festival of Talents came next. The high school Dance Troupe showcased their undeniable dancing skill during the said Festival of Talents.
The last day of the fellowship started with a Concelebrated Mass at SPCP Kindergarten Chapel. The talk of Mr. Mark Joseph Ubalde on “Producing Excellent and Award-winning School Publications: Challenges and Opportunities” came next. The presentation was inspiring and everyone paid attention to the flow of the message. Then, health break followed and the awarding and closing ceremonies ended the program. Medals, trophies and certificates were given to the writers, as well as the performers during the Talent Night.
